Horseshoe Bend Levee Construction

Kent, Washington
Date Completed: September 23, 2009
Contract: $4,080,376
Client: U. S. Army Corps of Engineers

Description:
Angayuk overcame numerous complicated challenges in successfully reconstructing the Horseshoe Bend Levee in Kent, Washington. The project required five sections, totaling 2,600 feet of failing flood control levee, to be excavated and rebuilt. Almost 56,000 cubic yards of unsuitable material was excavated and removed and more than 61,000 cubic yards of rock and dirt were added to strengthen the levee. Portions of the work demanded in-water construction under strict environmental guidelines. Numerous precautions were taken to protect the Green River and surrounding habitat from being disturbed during construction. Because of the Green River's salmon run and typical summer-month low water, the project was bound to tight time constraints which necessitated multiple crews working simultaneously. The high profile project required vigilant coordination with local residents and businesses, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, King County, the City of Kent and local news media in order to make the project a success for all parties. Despite these challenges the project finished ahead of schedule on September 23, 2009.

Memorial Park Construction

Fort Lewis, Washington
Date completed: May 26, 2009
Contract: $692,321
Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Description:
Among the projects Angayuk Construction Enterprises is most proud of is the Memorial Park at the U.S. Army Post of Fort Lewis. It was designed as a tranquil, centralized location to honor soldiers who have died since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. At just over four acres, the site provides for 17 memorials to bear the names, dates, and information about the fallen soldiers. Although challenged by the short project duration, by successfully teaming with quality subcontractors, ACE was able to meet the specifications of the contract. The project included an outdoor enclosure, equipment rack, a transformer, and the installation of an underground electrical distribution system as well as a sprinkler system. An existing basketball court was removed and the redesigned landscape was contoured to provide the sculpted hills and meandering walkways necessary to support a quiet and peaceful setting for visiting to reflect and reminisce. While it isn't Angayuk's biggest or most complex job, the company took exceptional pride in building the memorial and it holds a special place in the hearts of the Angayuk team.

Libby Dam Elevator Rehab

Libby, Montana
Date completed: Sept. 15, 2009
Contract: $921,610
Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Description:
When the Libby Dam elevators needed a major overhaul and rehabilitation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers turned to Angayuk Construction Enterprises. The dam, located outside Libby, Montana, required four elevators within the dam's structure to be taken from 1940's technology and brought to current standards. This included mechanical and electrical upgrades to the elevator controllers, door operators, elevator guides and rollers. The dated cab interiors received modern refinishing, and all four elevators received seismic upgrades, with one hydraulic elevator requiring the replacement of the operating shaft. As a time-sensitive project, ACE crews worked diligently with subcontractors to ensure a coordinated work sequence that would allow Libby Dam staff to continue day-to-day operations without interruptions and without compromising already existing safety and security measures. ACE successfully met contract requirements that included testing the functionality of the completed elevators and the training of Libby Dam staff. The Libby Dam Elevator Rehab project received its notice to proceed on April 14, 2009 and ACE completed it 23 days ahead of schedule on September 15, 2009. The project also received a letter of appreciation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Project Manger.
